Maybe you're just discovering Blues dancing... here's some information on this highly original dance!
Blues dancing is a patchwork of different dances and styles. Like swing dance, Blues dance comes from the rhythms and movements of African dance. Originally, Blues dancing often consisted of very
simple one- or two-step figures. Blues dancing has evolved from black American dancers to today's dancers from different styles, assimilating and patinating new steps. Today, it has incorporated
modern dance notions such as connection, improvisation and natural body movement.
From the outside, the subtlety of Blues dance is not always apparent. Often, only the very sensual appearance of the dance is perceived without seeing the subtle exchange and communication within
the couple. Blues music is special in that it moves from sadness to hope or joy. Blues dancing is also about interpreting these emotions.
Blues dancing, with its very simple basics, can be practiced very quickly, especially if you've already danced other dances. You'll soon realize that your dance, whatever it may be, will blend
happily with the Blues. The range of technical subtleties in Blues dancing, improvisation and sharing is endless. And in the end, you'll be able to reintroduce all this into your tango, swing,
rock, salsa or sports dance.
A special feature of the Blues dance community is its benevolence. No show, no fuss, everyone comes along with their own dance experience to share. No one will hold it against you if you take the wrong step: it's just another opportunity to improvise new moves with your partner!
And that's how we'd like to dance and share in each of our dances ;-)
